SBAT

School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships

Years 11 and 12 students may elect to undertake an SBAT program in their VCAL Foundation Program.

SBAT is a vocational education and work training program in senior secondary program. Students learn in a work environment and gain hands-on experience, skills and knowledge in an industry.

Within the SBAT program, students can complete a VET course to attain a nationally recognised qualification – Certificate II or III. This supports their pathway planning and can help them to jumpstart their career in a chosen industry.

Programs

We have a partnership with National Food Institute (inclusive of National Logistics Institute and National Horticulture Insitute) to provide a wide range of SBAT and VET courses for our students.

They are:
  • Certificate II in Horticulture
  • Certificate II in Food Processing
  • Certificate III in Catering

There are other SBAT and VET courses available through National Food Institute.

SBAT in Horticulture at Berendale School

Berendale School has a long history of working with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to deliver an SBAT program in Horticulture on the school site. In 2020, we are working with National Horticulture Institute (NHI) to run an SBAT and VET course in Certificate II in Horticulture.

In this program, students have access to a wealth of facilities including:

  • SBAT classroom
  •

They will learn:

  • Work health and safety
  • Using hand tools
  • Grow and care for plants
  • Propagation activities
  • Communication and customer service skills

Student learning is supported by both experienced NHI trainers and Berendale staff on site.

Students attend this program for 2 days per week and complete the course within a year. At the conclusion of the program, students and their families will be invited to attend an SBAT graduation ceremony to celebrate their achievements.

Expression of Interest

Each SBAT program is structured and delivered differently. We invite you to contact our Senior School Leader, Christopher Goaley for an expression of interest or any inquiries.
