Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning


At Berendale School, Years 11 and 12 students undertake VCAL Foundation Program.


Our VCAL program prepares students for post-school pathways by focusing on practical and employability skills.

Students learn:

  • Literacy and Numeracy
  • Work Related Skills
  • Personal Development Skills

They attend specialist programs in Art, Physical Education and Technology.


They select and complete an Industry Elective in Art, Horticulture, Hospitality, Sport Leadership or Volunteering.


Also, they may elect to undertake School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT) and complete a VET course in the VCAL program.


Berendale’s Applied Learning Model

Students build their knowledge, understanding and skills through real-world experiences. They are encouraged to demonstrate leadership and plan, develop and complete projects that are individualised to their needs and interests. This involves students working in partnership with their teachers and developing positive connections with organisations in the broader community.
